Environmental researcher and activist Bruce Melton is Thorne Dreyer’s guest on Rag Radio. On the show Bruce explains the meaning of a “climate emergency response” and “climate tipping.” Known tipping points include Antarctic collapse, permafrost collapse, epic fires, and sunny day beach erosion. He talks about a “cascade of tipping systems,” and what is irreversible. We also discuss the harm that Donald Trump did and what we can expect from a Biden presidency, with a rundown of Biden’s tentative climate plan which Melton calls movement in the right direction.
Bruce Melton is a professional engineer, environmental researcher, filmmaker, climate science education specialist, author, and director of the Climate Change Now Initiative founded in 2005. He has written over 500 reviews of climate science, lectures regularly, and has recently been involved in groundbreaking climate policy development. His current film project is Climate Change Across America with 16,000 miles filmed so far. He received a Sierra Club Special Achievement Award in 2020, for his part in the development of the Club’s new climate policies. Sierra Club’s awards are like Grammys in the environmental field.
